  • Is uberSVN Dead/End Of Life?

There haven't been blog posts for a while and the uberApps seem to have disappeared.
This thread is asking about the uberApps specifically
    http://www.svnforum.org/threads/5044...us-of-uberAPPS

However, based on the traffic and the redirection on the WanDisco site it feels like uberSVN itself is being retired.

I was hoping that some suggestions like this might get implemented:

    Hi There,

uberSVN is certainly not dead - We have many thousands of happy users and we continue to offer downloads of the product as well as critical updates. It's true that in recent months development effort has slowed down for new features, and we decided that at the moment uberApps was something we either needed to invest a huge amount of time in or suspend. Most people here work in software development so I'm sure you know how it is - WANdisco has a range of successful products and we've just completing a major re-architecture of our flagship Subversion Multisite product. Like anything in life you have to make choices and in this case it's just a case of the commercial reality being that we needed to prioritise our time on the Enterprise products rather than a free one.

We have some exciting plans for UberSVN though and certainly I believe it still has a great future as a product. I can't say much more at this point, but watch this space...

    Ian

Are you really sure that uberSVN is not dead?
Because the ubervn page www.ubersvn.com redirects to Wandisco Enterprise Subversion.

I hope your exciting plans for uberSVN are still alive.

Is it dead? I keep checking for update and no update are found. Are we going to be able to update from svn 1.7 to 1.8 using uberSVN's update tab?

I hope uberSVN will still download and install updates.

Tim, it really seems like this product is dying to me. I have looked at several other SVN servers and they all but one have updated to 1.8 of subversion. I am working on trying to manually update the subversion to 1.8.1 on my a test box I have setup I am just struggling finding the right binaries to do this manually. After I get this all figured out I will make a post on howto do it.

I think phoenixfire425 is right, the platform is dying. It's a pity. The platform is/was so nice designed.

@phoenixfire425: Did you find a way to patch 1.8 manually in UberSVN?

            Greetings
            Mike

It is possible.. I have done it... However.. its not an easy task and I would defiantly not do this on a production system until its all tested.

basically you have to download the binary files for the current SVN server and then replace the files in the 1.6 or 1.7 svn locations in the SVN application location. mine is. "/u01/app_home/uberSVN/ubersvn/data"

Here is what it looked like at the end.

I am on ubuntu server x64
