    The WEBDAV protocol always requires an unauthenticated request at the beginning. It will always fail if AuthN is required. That's not always the case, i.e. most OpenSource repositories won't require AuthN for read access. On the other hand, most business use requires AuthN before AuthZ and therefore the 1st request is always denied. The failure (401) triggers an AuthN so all subsequent requests will show the account that is making the request.
