  • Restricting multiple user checkout of the same file from the svn repository

I configured a Visual svn repository with access permission for two users user1 & user 2. Now both are able to checkout the repository...i want to restrict checkout of repository to only one user at a time. the second user should get message as "read only" or "the file its already checkedout by other one"..please help me...

No SCM that I know of will operate the way you desire.

The best compromise that I can think of using SVN is to have a special file in the repository root (or at least the root directory that they checkout) and have them attempt to "svn lock" that file before making changes. If they get the lock then they can treat their checkout as writeable; if not then they have to wait, do "svn update" commands and then re-try to acquire the "svn lock" on the special file.

Yes, this requires more responsibility on those working in the repositories. Best I can think of at this time.
