Recently installed, weird behavior

I recently installed SmartSVN and I'm getting some weird behavior.

1. The first and most alarming is that when I'm not making changes to the local repository, when someone else checks something in, it's comparing my local repository to the new check in, and because I haven't updated to get their new check-in, it's showing up as a change in my local repository (at least I think this is what is happening. The bottom line is I'm not making changes to a file, and it's telling me there are changes for that file, and giving me the option to check in changes). This is really dangerous. If I don't notice, and do a check-in, I'm essentially un-doing what my co-worker has committed.

2. If I revert the files from the first problem, they do revert to what is on the svn server, but the files continue to stay in the files tab saying that I've changed something. If a revert doesn't fix this, what will?

3. I need to have local changes to my repository that I never check in. I'd like to stop the files from showing up in my repository as changed (they are annoying to always see). I thought ignoring the files would fix this, but it doesn't. What could I do to fix this?

Thanks,
Scott

I had to replace a few thousand files in my working copy, some binary, some text- however, it is showing the local state of all the replaced files as Modified when not all of them should be. When I try to show changes for one of the supposedly Modified text files it even prompts me saying that the files are identical. Is there any way I can fix the states that doesn't involved a reset?
